I have recently been reading a book about how to live a more health-conscious life. It is called “The Three Levels of Self-Awareness” by Daniel Goleman. I have to say I’m completely impressed with this book. It is the first book I’ve read that truly explains the difference between the three levels of self-awareness. I had no idea self-awareness was such a big topic.

I don’t think it is, but that doesn’t make it any less true. The difference between being aware of your habits and not being aware of your habits is the difference between being on autopilot and controlling your own actions. You cannot exercise a little meta-cognition and say, “Hmm… every time my sister calls me and asks for money, I end up drinking a lot of vodkas.

The next time you’re about to eat your favorite food, think about the history of human consumption and try to imagine it in your own body. When you eat, you’re actively participating in the cycle of food consumption. You’re not, however, aware of your own habits. You’re not on autopilot. You’re aware of your body, what you’re doing, and whether or not it’s working. When you eat, you’re engaged, and you’re active.

The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them and they control us.

An autopilot is like the car that runs on its own. It doesn’t care about the road, the traffic, the speed limit, or any other things. It just drives itself to wherever it’s going. When you drive, you’re active. You do things. You make decisions. You choose the speed, the route, the direction you’re going. You’re engaged.

In other words, youre in control. The autopilot, however, doesn’t seem to have this sense of engagement. Instead, it seems to like to just sit there doing nothing. They’re not even aware that they’re doing nothing. They’re just doing whatever they want.

Autopilot is the concept that the mind is not the master of the machine. This has been the prevailing theory of our time since the invention of the steam engine. With a steam engine, the steam is the engine. The steam is the master. The steam controls the valve and the valves control the steam. The steam controls the motor. The motor moves the steam around. The valves adjust the speed. The motor has no control.

I find myself having to remind myself that I’m not the master of my mind. I’m just an automaton, and when I’m not paying attention, I am the master. I can’t really be the master. I need to pay attention.

It’s also worth noting that steam is the master of the steam engine. It is the master of steam, the master of the valve, the master of the steam valve, the master of the motor. Steam controls the valve and the valves control the steam. Steam controls the motor. Steam controls the steam. Steam controls the steam. Steam controls the steam. The steam controls the steam.

The steam, the valve, the motor, the steam, the steam. I could go on, but I think it’s safe to say this last one is really important.
